New year, New YOU, New TAN!

New year, New YOU, New TAN!                                                                    Happy New Year, spray tanners!

It’s a new year, and I’m definitely going to let the new me shine bright this year with our glowing tan from Superior Spray Tanning! It’s 2025, so let’s get your tanning goals started off the right way and help you achieve and maintain your glow!

First, no matter what time of year it is, you want to have that sun-kissed glow that we all find so appealing.

People are making their 2025 New Year’s resolutions. For many, forming healthy habits is a high priority, including more physical activity, healthy eating or quitting smoking. This year, consider adding this one to your list – Resolve to Make 2025 the year of No Tanning Beds. By avoiding tanning beds, you decrease your risk for skin cancer, maintain a healthy and younger looking complexion. It’s like three resolutions rolled into one.

Decrease Your Risk of Skin Cancer

Skin cancer is a global epidemic with 90 percent of all cases caused by sun exposure, according to the Skin Cancer Foundation. It is also the most common type of cancer in the United States. For those who use tanning beds, the risk of forming melanoma increases by 74 percent compared to those who never frequent tanning salons, claims a report in the journal of Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention. And for those who spend more than 50 hours under those indoor UV rays, the risk triples. Even more troubling, the newer high-pressure tanning beds (that mostly emit UVA rays) can increase the risk to four times.

Maintain a Healthy, Younger Looking Complexion Longer

Ultraviolet radiation may cause irreversible changes in the skin including fine wrinkles, deep grooves, blotchiness, sagging and a leathery texture. Some of these changes may appear as early as the age of 20 in anyone who has spent a great deal of time in the sun during childhood and teen years. Artificial tanning can cause any or all of these unwanted cosmetic effects and contribute to premature aging of the skin.

The use of tanning beds can create undesirable long term effects. The benefits of avoiding them can be significant – and it’s never too late to break a bad habit!  Join us in saying “No” to tanning beds.

Avoiding tanning beds is the first step toward a healthy, happy New Year and New You!

Moisturize with Oil-Free Lotion

People are always asking me, “what is the best lotion to use after my spray tan?” Dry skin definitely makes it hard to keep your sunless tan looking fresh and smooth. Patchy skin shows in photographs.  To extend the life of your sunless tan moisturized skin is a MUST! The problem is that some lotions contain ingredients that during my many years of spraying, I have discovered don’t work well with sunless tans, whether you get a spray tan or you self-tan at home.

Lotion Ingredients that are bad for your spray tan:

  • Mineral oil
  • Alcohol
  • Fragrances
  • Dyes
  • Essential Oils

Essential oils that are in lotions or applied to the skin for aroma therapy can cause your spray tan to break down in the areas that you are applying the oils and can also cause problems with the essential oil residue causing an unsightly color change when you GET your spray tan.  Please make sure that you have removed all essential oil residue completely. Baking soda mixed into your mild shower wash will help to remove all traces of the oils before you come to your spray tanning appointment. And stop using the oils for at least 72 hours.

Staying away from these ingredients while wearing your sunless tan ensures that your pretty glow lasts as long as possible and fades smoothly. Both are good things.

Congratulations to the class of 2022!

As soon-to-be graduates prepare for their trip down the auditorium aisle to receive their diplomas, many believe a glowing tan is a must-have accessory. However, the method by which that tan is achieved could mean the difference between bronze skin and a life-threatening disease.

The public is aware that sunburns can be particularly dangerous, but scientific evidence increasingly suggests there’s no such thing as a safe tan — particularly if that tan comes by way of baking in the sun or in a tanning bed.

Graduates who want a sun-kissed look for parties, senior week, graduation and other end-of-school events should consider custom airbrush spray tans  instead of sunbathing or tanning beds.

Superior Spray Tanning offers a Graduation Special to all of their 2022 graduates to glow during their graduation events!
